Microsoft Copilot and data protection: what companies need to know
One of the most frequently asked questions when introducing Microsoft Copilot concerns data protection. Does Copilot access all data? Will company data be used to train AI models? How can you control what information Copilot can access?
The good news is that Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 only works with the data that a user already has access to. No data leaves your company's Microsoft 365 environment. Microsoft does not use your company data to train the underlying AI models.
The important limitation: Copilot makes existing authorization problems visible. If employees can access documents to which they should not actually have access, Copilot can also find and present this information. A structured authorization check before the introduction of Copilot is therefore not an optional step, but a prerequisite.
