Why prodot is the right partner for software development in the industry
OT/IT integration as a core competence
We understand both worlds: the real-time requirements of automation technology and the scalability requirements of modern cloud architectures. OPC-UA, Modbus, MQTT on the one hand - REST APIs, Azure and .NET on the other.
End-to-end from a single source
From machine connection, MES development and ERP integration to ongoing operation - with no loss of information between different service providers and no hidden handovers.
Long-term partnership
Industrial projects grow with the requirements. prodot remains at your side as a partner - for expansions, new machine connections, AI upgrades and ongoing support.
Microsoft & Azure expertise
As an experienced Microsoft partner, we rely on Azure IoT Hub, Azure Digital Twins, .NET and Power BI for operational industry dashboards - with real depth instead of certification logos.
Compliance & security by design
ISO 9001, IEC 62443 for industrial control systems, NIS2 for critical infrastructures - compliance requirements are part of the architecture from the outset, not an afterthought.
AI-ready right from the start
Our industrial architectures are designed for AI enhancements: Anomaly detection in production data, AI-supported quality control, autonomous optimization of production parameters.

Frequently asked questions about software development in the industry
-
What is the difference between MES and ERP in industry?
An ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning) controls business processes: Order entry, materials management, accounting and human resources - at planning level and with latency in the minutes to hours range. An MES (Manufacturing Execution System) operates at production level in real time: it receives production orders from the ERP, controls actual production, records actual data from machines and employees and reports back results. Both systems must be seamlessly integrated - this is one of prodot's core competencies.
-
What is OT/IT integration?
OT (Operational Technology) refers to the world of machine controls, PLC systems and SCADA systems - historically isolated, designed for availability and with proprietary protocols. IT (Information Technology) refers to the world of business software, databases and cloud systems. OT/IT integration connects both worlds: Machine data flows into IT systems in real time, ERP orders control machine parameters. This requires protocol adapters (OPC-UA, Modbus, MQTT), security concepts for network separation and middleware for data transformation.
-
How long does it take to develop an MES solution?
This depends heavily on the scope, number of machine connections and depth of integration. An initial productive module - e.g. digital shift documentation or a real-time dashboard for a production line - can often be delivered in 6-10 weeks. A complete MES platform with ERP integration and several production areas typically takes 4-9 months. prodot works in iterative sprints so that you see usable results early on.
-
Which machine protocols does prodot support?
We work with the common industrial protocols: OPC-UA (standard for modern machine connectivity), OPC-DA (older systems), Modbus TCP/RTU, MQTT for IIoT scenarios as well as proprietary protocols from individual manufacturers (Siemens S7, Beckhoff ADS, Fanuc FOCAS and others). For old machines without a network connection, we develop retrofit gateways based on edge computing hardware that record and forward machine data without interfering with the control system.
-
How is cyber security guaranteed in industrial software?
Industrial environments are a growing target for attacks - failures have direct physical consequences. prodot develops according to the defense-in-depth principle: strict OT/IT network separation (DMZ concept), encrypted communication, least privilege access concepts, audit logging and regular security reviews. We take IEC 62443 (cyber security for industrial control systems) and NIS2 requirements for operators of critical infrastructures into account.
-
Can prodot also connect existing machines without OPC-UA?
Yes. Many industrial plants do not have standardized digital interfaces - especially older machines from the 1990s or 2000s. prodot develops retrofit solutions: external sensors (vibration, temperature, current) supplement missing machine data, edge gateways read control signals and translate them into modern protocols. This means that older systems can also be integrated into a modern IIoT or MES system - without interfering with ongoing production.
-
What is quality management software (QMS) and when is customized software worthwhile?
QMS software digitizes all processes related to quality assurance: inspection planning, measurement data acquisition, SPC (Statistical Process Control) evaluations, deviation management, CAPA processes and document control for audits. Standard solutions such as SAP QM or quality-specific systems cover many requirements - but if your inspection processes, machine connections or documentation requirements are very specific, individual software pays off. prodot provides honest advice on when standard makes more sense than custom development.
